A fairly uneventful day today, except for driving a couple
of hundred kilometres to our home for the next five nights – Zaragoza. First we walked up the road from our Manresa
apartment, towards the Cathedral to a little café for a simple but delicious
breakfast of cheese and ham on toast spread with tomato and olive oil. Then into the car for the long drive to
Zaragoza, stopping at various points for rests and to admire the views across
the countryside, ranging from the occasional castle to a large cut-out of a steer
up on a hill. Mostly dry brown countryside - stark contrast from the rolling
green fields of the past month.
On arrival in Zaragoza, or more precisely Casetas, an outer
suburb (fifteen kilometres from the centre of town) we had a quick lunch then
found our accommodation, a large three-bedroom apartment, with wrap-around
balconies and a large spa-bath, just off the main street and directly above a
supermarket. Perfect! Our host has very little English but as we
have absolutely no Spanish she was slightly ahead. She had actually sent us an email, in
Spanish, a few minutes before we arrived and when we put it to Google Translate
it started off with: “Hi John, I’m Pink.”
It took us a little while to work that out - her name is Rosa.
We relaxed for much of the afternoon – pausing for
fifteenses - and have had a home-cooked dinner tonight, of genuine Atlantic
Salmon and salad, washed down with a local white. Bliss!
